so.. a lot of people are excited about this for a few reasons, the main being that this is one of the first instances of a fat woman being shown full body on the cover of a fashion magazine. and a lot of people like the coat.
my thoughts: how can you tell what that coat looks like? also is it a ‘full body’ if it’s draped in piles of oversized fabric and held up by her hands to obscure every feature of her body?  it’s not even that i have a problem with loose clothing, but she’s like.. holding it up so it bunches up?
i mean, at least she isn’t naked or half-naked, a trope that fashion magazines trot out every time it becomes fashionable to pretend they care about fat people but don’t want to actually find clothes that fit them. and at least it isn’t an extreme closeup. but like, i’m tired of ‘slow progress’.  i refuse to be grateful for crumbs. fat people have existed forever, so all these random tiny baby steps don’t cut it for me. catch the fuck up. if you are going to make a genuine effort to represent different types of bodies in your toxic rag, go all in or go home.
hopefully the pictures inside are better- has anyone seen them? is this even out yet? i haven’t read a fashion magazine since middle school so i don’t remember how they work (and even then it was like, sassy or YM so this is probably way different and not full of zit remedies and awkward tampon stories).
